Opening Prayer: The meeting began at 7.05 pm with a prayer led by John.
Update on Liturgy: Deacon Carl Smith gave a presentation on the challenges and blessings he faced when he was appointed, the method of evaluating our liturgy then and the new evaluation model. He presented the current liturgical program, including details of changes made, and the challenges and blessings he faces today.
Old business:
· Tent City 4: Tent City 4 move went well and grass has been replanted.
· Friends of Youth Meal: Meal preparation went as planned with Art & Mary Mussman delivering the meal.
· Biography on new Members: Maureen will draft a biography on new PC members for inclusion in the weekly Sunday bulletin to introduce the new PC members to parishioners.
· Ecumenical Musical Gathering plans: Plans were in an advanced stage with several local churches having already accepted the invitation to perform on Sunday, October 4th. The celebration will include song and prayer. A reception hosted by the St. Bernadette’s guild ladies would follow the gathering. Molly asked PC members to promote the event and donate refreshments on the day, as well as be present at the celebration to welcome all attendees.
New business:
· Theme for New Year: As an extension of the Welcoming theme, we would also include “Outreach” this year. Eg Tent City, Ecumenical Gathering.
· Communications Liaisons: The assignments of various groups to PC members was discussed briefly. John will finalize the list and email to PC members. Art will continue to be the liaison person for Finance and Stewardship councils, and will continue to attend their monthly meetings.
John will also develop an introductory letter for distribution to ministry leaders.
Molly also requested that the flyer for the Ecumenical Gathering be sent with the letter and that PC members promote the event with the ministry leaders.
· Archdiocesan Audit: It is normal practice, after a priest has been with a parish for 6 years, for the Archdiocese to meet with the pastor, staff and maybe some members of PC to evaluate and assess the progress of the parish under the guidance of that priest. Sr. Betty will confirm the timing of this evaluation.
· Leadership Training with Sound Alliance: Sound Alliance is hosting 3 sessions of leadership training, including goal setting, tools etc. The 12 hour sessions will be held at the following venues:
Place Dates Times
Seattle Oct. 4th & 11th 2 pm – 8 pm
Tacoma Oct. 10th & 17th 9 am – 3 pm
Olympia Oct. 18th & 25th 12.30pm – 5.30pm
· Response to Concern over promoting Immigration Referendum: A parishioner had written a letter expressing some concern over the recent Immigration Referendum sign-up. Fr. Dave had replied to the letter and explained criteria / guidelines with regard to requests for church time and space for social justice causes.
Pulse of the Parish: Reminder of Fr. Joey’s 75th birthday celebration this Sunday (6th).
