Pastoral Council Minutes

St. Jude Pastoral Council

Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, February 1, 2006

Participants: Don Cairns (Chair), Fr. Dave Rogerson (Pastor), Anusha Fernando, Lauren Sing, Debbie McCormick, Suzanne Henderson,

Absent: Tim Thompson, Bob Clancy, Gary Smith

The meeting began @ 7:08pm with individual check –in, and an opening prayer.

Pastor’s Report:

¨      Deacon Carl Smith was introduced at all the masses the past weekend. He will primarily be handling liturgy & RCIA, but these two responsibilities are more than his hours will allow, so the parish staff will look into how to divide these jobs. He will spend most of his first month on the job shadowing & observing. Fr. Dave will extend an invitation to him to attend the March Pastoral Council meeting.

¨      Fr. Joey is discouraged because he will not be allowed to drive when he leaves Spokane. Also he gets depressed because the other priests at the care center are approximately 10 or more years older than him, & not up on current events. The parishioners of St. Jude need to continue to support him & pray for him to be able to return to work.

¨      Fr. Dave distributed a list of future agenda items of unmet areas of Parish Ministry to  consider:

  1. Young Adult Ministry ( Need to find leaders)
  2. Spiritual Life Committee ( Need a staff member to oversee individual committees so they don’t turn into lobbyist groups)
  3. Staff – Pastoral Council Liaison ( Pastor filling that role for now)
  4. Outreach Ministry ( Our seminarian handling this for now, Parish gets many requests for providing services, job description needed)
  5. Youth Representative of Pastoral Council ( Consider an annual invitation)
  1. Adult Education ( Patty Fitzsimmons currently doing this, job description needed)

Staff Reports: A suggestion was made to invite the staff to use the Pastoral Council for feed back, & ask them how we can best support them, rather than have them complete monthly reports that just take up their time.

Pulse of the Parish: Only two people reported parishioners inquiring about staff resigning/retiring. Council members discussed the vitality & solidness of the parish & how we can best reinforce that stability to parishioners.

Old Business:

¨      Mission Statement work: Dennis Gibb has agreed to be part of a work team. Process to recruit more volunteers will continue.

 New Business:

Don Cairns plans to attend the next Finance Council meeting.

The Pastoral Council needs to be the visionary body & pass on the parish       priorities & goals to the Finance council, so they are reflected in the  budget.

Action Plan:

¨      Suzanne Henderson will provide the opening prayer for the March meeting.

¨      Deacon Carl Smith will be invited to the next meeting.

¨      Pastoral Council will consider list of unmet areas & decide which is the top priorithy.

¨      Fr. Dave will contact the Woodinville Parish to explore a level of involvement for St. Jude in a new Catholic school.

The meeting was adjourned with a closing prayer at 8:35 pm. The next meeting will be held Wednesday,  March 1st, 2006.

Respectfully submitted, Debbie McCormick
