Meeting Minutes

Thursday, March 1,2007

Participants: Don Cairns (Chair), Fr. Dave Rogerson (Pastor), Lauren Sing, Debbie McCormick, Bob Johnson, Bob Stephens

Absent: Anusha Fernando, Suzanne Henderson, Gary Smith

This additional meeting to review the Mission Statement process was called to order @ 7:08 p.m. by Don Cairns.

Old Business:

Mission Statement Process: Don distributed Project/Process Review handouts & explained that the purpose of a review is to accelerate the development of competence & move toward greater fulfillment in present & future endeavors. The outcome of a review is clear direction for the future. The committee then began to review the Mission process held on February 1, 2007. The following is an overview of results of our review:

1. State the original purpose: To update the parish Mission Statement, to gain ideas from a broader group, to identify parish values, to obtain parish ownership of the Mission Statement, to draft a new Mission Statement

2. State the actual outcomes to date: Attendees were educated on the process of developing a Mission Statement, 2 drafts were completed, numerous ideas & values were narrowed down. 16- 18 people participated in the process.

3. What worked well? A clear process was provided, having dinner first to allow for an early meeting with good attendance, meeting was well facilitated, having pastoral council work together with the parish staff, meeting allowed for collective wisdom & clustering of values.

4. What did not work well?: Lack of common language among attendees, no clear picture of where to go next, first draft lacked passion, people ran out of energy by end of evening.

5. What was learned?: Our parish has developed & grown, a well moderated session leads to results, we have diverse views, we asked ourselves “what is our identity”, a slogan differs from a Mission Statement , core values that we could all ‘buy into’ by having common ground

6. Who do you have to appreciate? Sr. Betty, Fr. Dave, Don Cairns, all who participated in the process

7. What are the next steps? Finish & submit draft #3 by March 9^th, 2007 by e-mailing pastoral council members and parish staff. Distribute the three drafts to core groups within the parish with questions, such as: Is it appropriate to St. Jude parish? Will it provide direction or inspiration to lead us into the future? We will use the Mission Statement to build/create goals.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. with closing prayer. The next meeting will be held Wednesday, March 7^th, 2007 at 7:00 pm.
