St. Jude Pastoral Council
Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, April 5, 2006
Participants: Don Cairns (Chair), Fr. Dave Rogerson (Pastor), Anusha Fernando, Lauren Sing, Debbie McCormick, Suzanne Henderson, Bob Clancy, Gary Smith.
Absent: Tim Thompson
The meeting began @ 7:10 p.m. with an opening prayer led by Suzanne Henderson, & a brief check in of all present.
Old Business:
¨ Fr. Dave reported that at this point there are no immediate plans for a Catholic school in Woodinville. Discussion was held regarding governess issues for supporting churches of local Catholic schools. Fr. Dave also informed the council that the Crosier Society would like to form a funding endowment program for Catholic schools in our diocese.
¨ Bob Clancy reported that currently we have 3 parishioners interested in running for the two vacancies on the Pastoral Council. Nomination forms will be placed in the church pews the Sunday after Easter asking parishioners to either sign up if they are interested or to nominate someone they feel would be a good candidate for the position.
¨ Don recommended that the council revisit the “Mission Work” after Easter due to a full agenda. Discussion followed.
Pastors Report:
¨ Fr. Dave stated it is somewhat difficult to anticipate numbers for the Easter Liturgies this year due to local school districts spring break schedule this year. Ushers will be instructed to hold people downstairs arriving early for the next service while the ongoing liturgy is still be celebrated. Discussion was briefly held on how to logistically get people from downstairs to their seats upstairs after mass, with the least amount of discord.
¨ Fr. Dave is hosting a table of parishioners from St. Jude for the Interfaith breakfast meeting with the Mayor of Redmond; Rosemary Ives, to be held Thursday, May 4th
¨ A hand-delivered letter from Tent City Representatives was given to Fr. Dave, requesting that St. Jude Parish consider hosting Tent City for 3 months this summer. A council member reported that the City of Redmond has done some exploration into what the political and financial liabilities would be for the city of Redmond, should a local church host Tent City for the homeless. A conversation followed. Fr. Dave will notify parishioners about the Tent City letter via the Sunday bulletin.
¨ The job description for the Pastoral Associate position was handed out, & reviewed. To date we have five people interested in the Pastoral Associate position. The position will be advertised in the Progress Newspaper. An interview committee with 1-2 people from the pastoral council included will conduct interviews after reviewing formal applications.
¨ Council members shared thoughts on the “pulse of the parish”.
New Business:
· After chairing the St. Patrick’s Day celebration, parishioner Mary K. Moore and her crew of volunteers discovered many things either missing or in need of replacing in both the parish hall kitchen, and the kitchen at Lovett Hall. Mary K. would like to host a “Kitchen Shower” to replace needed items. The council discussed the necessity of taking an inventory, & getting input from all the parish groups using the kitchen (K of C, Youth Group, funeral reception committee, etc…) & the need to permanently label items belonging to St. Jude’s. The pastoral council would support this project.
· Carl Smith is temporarily filling the Liturgist position, along with overseeing the RCIA program. This position will also be advertised, & formal interviews will be conducted.
· A conversation on the different types of parish communication was held, as Fr. Dave shared a few of the recent e-mail exchanges he has had following both bulletin, & ambo announcements.
Action Plan:
¨ Fr. Dave will locate the P.C. nomination form, & questionnaire templates.
¨ Gary & Fr. Dave will meet regarding usher logistics for the Easter services.
¨ Fr. Dave will host table for Breakfast with the Mayor.
¨ Don will follow-up with Mary K. Moore, regarding the “Kitchen Shower”
¨ Bob C. volunteered to lead the opening prayer at the May meeting.
The meeting was adjourned with a closing prayer at 9:05 pm. The next meeting will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2006.
Respectfully submitted, Debbie McCormick
