St Jude Pastoral Council Minutes of monthly meeting held at 7.00pm On Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008
Present: Don Cairns (Chairman), Fr. Dave Rogerson (Pastor), Matt Oakland (Seminarian), Bob Johnson, Angela Elfenson, Gary Smith and Lauren Sing
Apologies: Anusha Fernando, John La Fond
Opening Prayer: The meeting began at 7.00pm with a prayer.
Objective: To discuss / discern a short list of possible candidates identified from earlier discussions and how to fill the positions – by election or by discernment.
Discussion: Before discussing possible candidates, the point was raised about how to amend the bylaws to allow for appointment to the Pastoral Council by discernment. At present, an election process should be followed. In the past few years though, the number of willing candidates has been the same as the number of positions available. It was decided that the bylaws should be amended in the fall to allow for a process of discernment in the future.
Possible Candidiates: A number of possible candidates was discussed with various PC members sharing some insight on some candidates for the benefit of those who did not know all of them. The possibility of a young adult position was also raised, although from past history, when a youth had attended meetings, they were slightly bored during the proceedings. Two possibilities were named as young adult representative. Fr Dave mentioned that the staff had also made a list of candidates to be considered and he would email the list to PC members. Gary Smith requested that newly registered parishioners also be included for consideration as they could bring a different perspective. After discussion, it was decided that Bob, Gary, Don, Angela and Lauren would contact respective possible candidates to see if they were interested in serving on the Pastoral Council.
The meeting was closed with prayers at 8.15 pm
Bylaws: All members should check to see if they had a copy of the bylaws and to let Fr Dave have a copy.
The meeting was closed at 9.10 with prayers around the table.
