MINUTES OF THE PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 2, 2007
Present: Don Cairns (Chairman), Fr Dave Rogerson (Pastor), Bob Johnson, Gary Smith, Lauren Sing and Jerry Kuntz (Pastoral Assistant for Administration)
Apologies: Debbie McCormick, Anusha Fernando,
The Meeting was opened with a prayer at 7.05pm.
2007-2008 Budget:
Jerry Kuntz presented the budget summary to Pastoral Council and outlined the budget process and highlights of the proposed budget.
After responding to questions raised by Pastoral Council members, and some additional explanations, the Pastoral Council expressed its appreciation to the staff of St Jude and the Finance Council for their efforts in preparing a balanced budget.
Criteria for evaluating proposals submitted to Pastoral Council:
Don suggested that a subcommittee be formed to do more legwork and create a process which could be followed whenever a proposal or request was made of St Jude and / or Pastoral Council, so that procedures would be standardized, and criteria and expectations met for evaluating the requests. Gary, Suzanne and Bob Johnson would work together as a subcommittee. It was suggested that they approach the Archdiocese as a starting point. They would also decide how to discern which committee the request be directed to.
Fr Dave would provide a list of the categories of requests received on a regular basis both internally and externally.
Mission statement:
Don will be in touch with Sr Betty for ideas to get back some momentum.
He would be attending the Finance Council meeting on May 9th, to give them some background on how the statement as it stands was developed.
Tent City: Tent City would be moving on May 19th. The issue of fines is slowing been resolved. An incident of theft from a car parked in the Presbyterian church parking lot had been reported and the culprit had identified himself as a Tent City resident but this was never proved.
Pastoral Council Elections:
Don listed additional candidates and he and Suzanne would contact them. The possibility exists that Bob Stephens’ position on the PC may open up in a few months. Elections should be held on third Sunday of May.
Don also indicated that after being approached by Suzanne and having discussed the matter with Fr Dave, he would be available to serve on the PC for a further term.
Parish Communications:
It was still felt that Carl’s role as deacon be communicated to parishioners.
Woodinville School:
Fr Dave announced that Fr Scott is being relocated to Bellingham, and he would renew talks with the new pastor.
New Business:
In conclusion, members were asked to consider and name siginificant actions at St Jude during the past 5 years to give us a reference of where we want to go in the future.
The meeting was closed at 9.05 with a prayer.
