Apologies:                  Debbie McCormick, Gary Smith,

The meeting began after dinner at 7.55pm with a “Roses and Thorns” check-in.

Old Business:

  • Woodinville School: Fr Dave discussed the matter and handed out the names of parishioners who had expressed interest in a Catholic School during the past year; names of those who had been involved in a discussion with Holy Family, Kirkland in 1998, as well as names of worthwhile contacts.

  • Parish Council election process:

    • Four nominations had been received, of whom David Bowman, Bob Stephens, and Bob Johnson had completed nomination forms. Kerry Monterey was overseas. Don contacted him after the meeting and he decided to withdraw his name form consideration.
    • It was decided that the reason why each nominee felt called to run for Pastoral Council, along with their photographs, be placed in the pews at all masses on weekend of 13/14th May.
    • Elections would take place during masses held on the weekend on 20th/21st May.
    • After a brief discussion of whether to allow voting through the website, it was decided not to offer this option this year.
    • Bob would put together the candidates’ details and photographs. Ballots would be in the same format with a box next to each candidate for voting purposes.
    • An announcement would be made from the ambo.

  • “Mission work”:
    • It appears as if we have 3 statements – in the bulletin, church and website.
    • Don envisioned that the mission committee would submit a preliminary draft to Pastoral Council for review.
    • May need formal survey, calling people, parish-wide listening sessions to be statistically valid.
    • Once finalized by Pastoral Council, set 5 year goals, based on mission statement and then set 1 year goals.
    • Don will develop an action plan to make things happen

  • Kitchen Shower:
    • Don will suggest to Mary Moore that she contact Lynn and Ruth in office to get names of various committees and members using kitchen. Suggestions include Ann Case (Funeral Reception committee), Social Committee, St Bernadette’s Guild, Knights Of Columbus, Youth Group, and Donut committee.

Pastors’ Report( Fr Dave)

 ·        Mayor’s prayer breakfast: Several staff members and pastoral council members would be attending

·        De-Brief of Easter Liturgies:

o       Parking went well; maybe due to lighter attendance because of Spring break

o       Several people with chemical sensitivities expressed appreciation that the liturgy in Lovett Hall did not have incense or lilies.

  • Hiring Process for open positions (Pastoral Council role)
    • 7 requests for application forms for Pastoral Assistant position
    • Ideal would be to interview 2 – 4 persons for Nancy’s position
    • Interviews to take place May 17th (day) and 18th (day and evening)
    • Fr Dave would like 2 Pastoral Council members to be present at interviews for Pastoral Assistant position and 1 member at interviews for Liturgist
    • Would need to form an impression of candidate as to fit with job description, and church’s history and needs.
    • Don volunteered  to be at these meetings if he is available; Suzanne would check her availability on those days.
    • Don would ask Anuscha and Gary if they would like to be present at interviews
    • Other names suggested: Ann Case, John Spadafora, John Lacey, Rick Casolary

  • Thanks to Stephen Ministers for supplying trees, shrubs and flowers for south- east entrance and thanks were expressed to Jerry Kuntz, and Mark for their hard work planting.

New Business

  • Proposed 2006-2007 Budget:
    • Fr Dave explained major differences to the budget from past years.
    • Much hard work  had gone into preparing the budget
    • Appreciation was expressed to Finance Committee (via Bruce)
    • Budget, as proposed, was approved unanimously by Pastoral Council

Open Topics

  • Tent City
    • Principal from Jewish School which has hosted Tent City, is willing to attend a public forum if needed
    • Need to form a committee to explore the matter. Don agreed to ask Will Boegel if he would participate in organizing a committee
    • Fr Dave has not heard anything further from Tent City since initial contact was made

  • Bulletin / Website
    • Franz had expressed willingness to assist with redesign. Don will ask him  to contact Father Dave directly.
    • Include special intentions in bulletin?

  • The Pastoral Council’s appreciation was expressed to outgoing members, Bob Clancy and Tim Thompson, for their involvement and energy over the past three years

  • Everyone attending expresses appreciation to Bruce and Suzanne Henderson for hosting the meeting at their home.

The meeting was closed with prayers for special intentions at 9.05. Next meeting will be held on June 7th.
