Meeting Minutes
Wednesday September 6, 2006
Participants: Don Cairns (Chair), Fr. Dave Rogerson (Pastor), Lauren Sing, Debbie McCormick, Suzanne Henderson, Anusha Fernando, Bob Johnson
Absent: Bob Stephens, Gary Smith
The meeting began @ 7:08 p.m. with an opening prayer led by Don Cairns, followed by a brief check in of all present.
Our two guests from St. Jude’s Tent City Committee were introduced; Will Boegel & Mark Mackaman.
Old Business:
¨ Tent City: Will Boegel & Mark Mackaman recently attended a Tent City/ Share Wheel meeting hosted by the Church Council of Greater Seattle. They reported that approximately 15 churches were represented at the meeting. The goal of the meeting was not only to inform attendees who & what Tent City & Share Wheel is, and their Mission to increase awareness about the homeless population in the surrounding communities, and provide housing, but to create a two year hosting agenda to prevent the need for emergency hosting situations in the future. Will & Mark gave the council members an update on future sites the Tent City/Share Wheel community is looking at as possible 90 day stays in the next two year period. Will & Mark shared information & tentative dates as opportunities for St. Jude to host in 2007 -08. The two year list of host sites includes primary sites, with secondary sites as backups. The two year plan will hopefully allow hosts enough time to go through the sometimes tedious city permitting process to obtain the required Temporary Use Permit. Council members discussed the need for parish awareness and input on this matter. A recommendation was made to e-mail the results of the meeting hosted by the Church Council of Greater Seattle to the city mayor of Redmond, and to keep the parishioners of St. Jude informed via the bulletin and parish web site.
¨ Pastoral Council 2006-2007 Work Plan: The Council reviewed the following work plan.

Pastors Report:
¨ 25th Anniversary of St. Jude Church building: Fr. Dave informed council members that a celebration will be held October 29, 2006 in conjunction with the St. Jude Fall Festival . Archbishop Burnett will celebrate the 11:00 a.m. liturgy on Sunday. Plans are being made to handout prayer cards and share the parish history.
¨ A parishioner asked Fr. Dave to please shed light on the ongoing genocide in Darfur, Africa. For the past three years 500 people have been dying daily, and most Americans seem to be totally unaware of the atrocities taking place there. Fr. Dave shared a flyer regarding the Day of Prayer & Reflection being held on September 17, 2006 at the Madrona Presbyterian Church in Seattle. This event is supported by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.
¨ Sister Betty Schumacher our new Pastoral Associate will be officially on staff October 1, 2006. She attended staff retreat day recently.
¨ During the month of September the St. Jude parking lot and off site parking situation will be monitored. In October the annual Sunday liturgy attendances will be counted. After the information is collected & reviewed any necessary changes will be addressed.
New Business:
· Don Cairns was re-elected as the Pastoral Council chair person. The vice-chair position remains open until the October 2006 meeting.
· All present discussed the pros and cons of a proposal to adopt a parish in New Orleans. More information on the needs of the particular parish will be obtained for the October meeting.
Action Plan:
¨ Don Cairns will continue to put together a Mission work committee
¨ Fr. Dave will invite Sr. Betty Schumacher to attend the October 2006 Pastoral Council meeting.
The meeting was adjourned with a closing prayer at 9:10 pm. The next meeting will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2006.
Respectfully submitted, Debbie McCormick
